Far East Living Collects Coats for Urban Ministry of Palo Alto

Encouraging Holiday Giving with a “Give a Little, Get a Lot” Promotion and Coat Drive

PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA, December 1, 2005 — Far East Living announces a special promotion designed to help customers make the most of their holiday shopping, in their “Give a Little, Get a Lot” Coat Drive. All customers who donate a gently-used coat or jacket to the cause will receive a $100 discount towards select merchandise in the Palo Alto store. The promotion and coat drive will run until December 31, 2005, after which the collected coats and jackets will be delivered to Urban Ministry of Palo Alto, a non-profit agency focusing on the needs of the homeless and at-risk.

Far East Living logoWhile Far East Living will accept all clothing donations on behalf of the Urban Ministry, they encourage their customers to bring in warm winter coats and rain jackets, which are always needed at this time of year. This is why the promotion focuses on coats and jackets. To thank their customers for their generous donations, Far East Living will credit coat and jacket donors $100 on the purchase of clothing in their “Dynasty Collection” (or, if customers prefer, they can apply the discount towards the purchase of select furniture in the store).

About Far East Living

Esther Shih, owner of Far East Living, designed the clothing in the “Dynasty Collection,” distinct contemporary women’s wear with an Asian flair. She uses opulent materials like fine Chinese silk brocades, intricate details and luxurious surprises (such as real fur trims). To complement the Asian-inspired clothing, Far East Living also offers treasures that Esther imports from China, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand – such as purses, fashion accessories, and home decor, furnishings and accents. Shoppers will also discover eclectic jewelry and accessories handcrafted by Eileen Sandoc Yen of 3E’s Designs, and fine art pieces by Amy Da-Peng King, who painted the grand bamboo murals which decorate the store. Far East Living is located in Downtown Palo Alto, at 540 University Avenue, and online at www.fareastliving.com. The Palo Alto store opened its doors on June 30, 2005.

About Urban Ministry of Palo Alto

Urban Ministry of Palo Alto and InnVision merged in March 2002. Both like-minded social service agencies understood that by collaborating they could increase and enhance the resources available for the homeless and at-risk. Urban Ministry serves the Mid-Peninsula and works closely with that community to help the homeless find ways of breaking the cycle of homelessness so they can become productive members of the community. Urban Ministry provides hot meals, a clothes closet, shelter, food closet, drop-in center, money management program and emergency assistance. To learn more, visit www.umpa.org.
