Sassy Sisters Studios Opens Its Doors to the Public
Eight Artists to Feature Their Work on April 30 and May 1 in Willow Glen
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, April 22, 2005 Sassy Sisters Studios, a cooperative of local artists working in an array of media, will host their Spring 2005 Open Studio on April 30 and May 1 at 1664 Fairlawn Avenue in the Willow Glen area of San Jose from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fine arts, textile arts, clay arts, jewelry creations, retro and technical designs, will be just some of the media on display.
The Spring 2005 Open Studio features Sonya Paz, Eileen Sandoc Yen, Michele Dour, Lynn Kraus, Diana Rich, Carmen Nicholls and Donna Guzman. In addition, they are hosting Deborah Anderson, a guest artist. Photos and event details are on their website at www.sassystudios.com.
Sonya Paz (www.sonyapaz.com) is creating a new direction in Pop Art. Sonya is a native Californian and lives in San Jose. In 2004, Sonya opened her own fine art gallery in Santa Clara, Calif., and her works are represented across the United States, including South Miami Beach, Napa Valley and Detroit. Her work was exhibited at this years International Artexpo in New York. Sonya is a Vice President of the Artists Guild of San Francisco.
Eileen Sandoc Yen (www.3esdesigns.com) of 3Es Designs makes handcrafted jewelry and accessories using different materials and techniques, including beading, chain mail and wirework. Her jewelry features Swarovski crystals, semi-precious stones, vintage materials and sterling silver. Many of her pieces are also functional; some can be converted to have different looks. Eileen rarely repeats a design, so her pieces are truly eclectic.
Michele Dour of Quilting Obsessions explores the fusion of contemporary and traditional fabric in design. Her focus is on usable quilt art for the individual and home. Recently, she has been exploring the world of knitting arts. What began as a creative outlet at the kitchen table in 2002 quickly became an obsession, and her textile studio was born. Michele will present quilts, scarves and other useful creations.
Lynn Kraus has been holding a needle most of her life. Her textile arts span from the traditional to the modern. She makes classic quilts of calicos and vibrant batik quilts. Dynamic wall hangings are startlingly graphic. Two dimensions are not enough for her; she also creates stunning 3D pieces such as mysterious spirit dolls.
Diana Rich (www.a-creative-edge.com), of Creative Edge, brings a variety of design and artistic pieces to Sassy Sisters Studios. A professional graphic designer for many years, Diana is the owner and designer of EichlerStyle (www.cafepress.com/eichlerstyle), an online store which features her Crazy bout Eichlers designs, with a complete line of retro-inspired motifs and illustrations. Diana will also showcase recycled art clocks as well as modern, colorful abstract paintings and mixed media creations. Diana works with fellow artist, Carmen Nicholls (www.eichlernumbers.com), on designs and merchandise for Eichler home lovers, by offering retro designs and a hip new take on Eichler modern living.
Donna Guzman creates functional pieces, clay sculpture and Ikebana. Her sculptures are inspired by nature, with a respect for clay and the earth. She works with several firing techniques and experiments with different glazes and mixes, enhancing each piece of pottery by the final glaze.
Deborah Anderson (www.geocities.com/thousand_canes) is one of the founding members of the South Bay Polymer Clay Guild in San Jose. She is known for her polymer clay miniature shoes and purses. She teaches workshops, writes articles for magazines, and designs products for manufacturers. She also has more than 30 years of experience as a leather artisan. She makes products out of leather such as custom fitted footwear for men, women and children, baby booties, handbags and accessories.
